What is the future going to be like?

Wow, I have been thinking alot about what we, as a whole, are going through.  Gas is almost $4.50 per gallon right now, with five dollar a gallon gasoline becoming more of a reality than just a scare tactic.  Things are rising faster in cost than my salary.  Don't get me wrong, I get paid well, but if this is not inflation, what is?  I was not born yet when the gas scare happened in the 70s.  When will that happen again?  I constantly hear of gas stations don't make a profit from gas, but they make profit from the other services they provide.  Its not worth it to them to keep selling gas.

I want to telecommute for work, but I can not.  Management is determined that they have to see our smiling mugs everyday.  I have a good job, but I want to be able to telecommute a few times a week.  I don't mind paying money for gas every week, but I want to pay less.  We were doing ok with me just working and my wife staying home, but now, we're not.

Our grocery bill average has gone up.  Our power bill keeps going up.  Sure, we can use less electricity, but I like being able to have hot water, cook food, and be a little comfortable.

What can we do to change things here in Hawaii?  I feel that I don't have a solution.  One has to become a Democrat just to get elected to office here.  The few elected Republicans are turning Democrat, or just not staying in politics.

What is our future going to be like?  I love to be optimistic, but it is really hard to right now...

Aloha,
Brendan
